When asked by a reporter, Donald Trump refused to rule out forcing all Muslims in America to register in a database. The next day, he said it wasn’t his idea’s it was the reporter’s. He just didn’t rule it out. As if answers to questions no longer mean anything.
NBC: Should there be a database system that tracks Muslims of this country?
TRUMP: There should be a lot of systems, beyond databases. We should have a lot of systems. And today, you can do it. But right now we have to have a border, we have to have strength, we have to have a wall and we cannot let what’s happening to this country happening –
NBC: Is that something your White House would like to do?
TRUMP: I would certainly implement that. Absolutely.
NBC: How would a Trump administration actually get Muslim Americans registered?
Trump: It would be just good management.
It’s only temporary, he says, although he doesn’t give an end-date to the moratorium.
This is the same guy who’s stoked fear and hatred of Muslims by saying he witnessed thousands of Arabs celebrating in the streets on 9/11… the same guy who condoned the beating and kicking of protesters at his rallies, who described most undocumented immigrants from Mexico as murderers and rapists, and who promises to literally build a wall around the United States.
Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia says black students would be better off at slower-paced, less prestigious schools that are more suited toward their abilities, during oral arguments in a case about affirmative action at the University of Texas.
(1) Cop in Delaware orders black man to get on the ground. (2) Black man obeys, gets on the ground on all fours, and puts his head down. (3) Cop kicks the man hard in the face, breaking his jaw. (4) This is all caught very clearly on dashcam video. (5) Jury acquits cop.
Just another day in America.
The Chicago PD shot and killed a mentally-disturbed teenager who was threatening his father with an aluminum baseball bat. In the process they also shot and killed and an unarmed 55-year-old mother.
A grand jury declined to indict the police officer who killed 12-year-old Tamir Rice on a playground in Cleveland just a split second after exiting his police car. The prosecutor, Timothy McGinty, held a press conference where he sounded more like a defense attorney than a prosecutor. He said it would be unjust to indict the “reasonable” officer, that the video evidence was “indisputable” (it’s not), and that he had personally recommended to the grand jury that they not indict. While he was at it, he blamed Tamir Rice for his own death; reminding us that he was tall for his age, that he’d been warned carrying a toy gun would get him into trouble, and that his attempt to hand his toy over to the very reasonable cops appeared aggressive. So the cops were reasonable to shoot him dead.
President Obama gave a speech at a mosque denouncing anti-Muslim bias, implicitly criticizing Republican candidates like Donald Trump who demonize Muslims, and embracing Muslim-Americans as part of “one American family.” Marco Rubio then held a press conference condemning President Obama’s call for unity as “divisive.”
